great learning great experience great future
Profile
Northumbria is an expanding multicultural learning community with
excellent links to Further and Higher Education, industry and commerce
throughout the UK, Europe and beyond. The University has particularly
close links to Thailand. In recent years, the University has been
voted "Best New University" several times by leading newspapers
such as The Times and the Daily Telegraph. Although the University
only came into existence in 1992, its roots are distinguished ones
that go right back to the city's long established industrial past.
Courses are grouped into five faculties:
(1) Arts, (2) Engineering, Science & Technology, (3) Health,
Social Work & Education, (4) Newcastle Business School and (5)
Social Services. It is famous for its fashion school.
Location
Northumbria, in the Northeast of England, is one of the UK's most
beautiful regions. The University is located on four campuses. The
main campus is in Newcastle city centre, tow others are just outside
Newcastle in lovely green locations, and the other is the award-winning
campus of in the city of Carlisle, 100 km west of Newcastle. At
first, these locations might sound to be inconvenient, but the smaller
campuses offer a completely different student experience, which
is ideal if you want to be part of a close-knit community where
it is easy to begin lifelong friendships. Check out the prospectus
and website to see how great the locations really are. Newcastle
United Football Club is only a short walk from the City campus and
Carlisle has its own football club, but as of the 2002 season, it
is only a Third Division team! Newcastle has an international airport
and you can get connecting flights there from Thailand on KLM and
British Airways.
Facilities
There are outstanding study and IT facilities. Each campus is directly
connected by computer. Newcastle Football Club is in the Premier
League and so to are the sports facilities at Northumbria University
- The Sports Centre at the City campus has one of the largest and
best equipped gymnasiums in the university sector in the UK.
Accommodation
Most of the Accommodation is self-catering. The cost of living in
Newcastle is much lower than in many other parts of the UK. This,
plus the famous genuine friendliness of the Northeastern people
make for a very pleasant environment to live and study in.
