Cardiff is one of the UK's major universities.
It was founded in 1883 and now it has more than 16,000 students,
about 1,400 of whom are from overseas (from about 110 countries).
It was rated in the Top 12 of The Times Good University Guide
2003 for Architecture, Civil Engineering, Country & Town Planning,
Education, Electrical Engineering, Engineering and Technology, Food
Science, Mechanical Engineering, Pharmacology, and Psychology. There
is also an excellent Business School and a highly rated Social Sciences
Department. Cardiff is the capital city of Wales and the University
enjoys a central location in the city, in some lovely historical
buildings close to parks and tree-lined avenues. Transportation
to and from Cardiff is very easy and convenient, with excellent
road and rail links to the rest of the UK. Wales has some of the
UK's loveliest mountain and coastal scenery and living in Cardiff
offers the chance to enjoy this beauty. In recent years over 160
million pounds has been invested in new buildings, equipment and
the latest technology, including a 30 million pound centre for engineering
and computer science, and a new school for biosciences. Accommodation
is first rate and over two-thirds of study bedrooms are en-suite
and within walking distance of lectures. Cardiff combines the practical
advantages of a small, friendly, inexpensive city with the cultural
and recreational amenities of a successful and modern capital city.
For football fans, the Millennium Stadium hosts many important football
games and the game of rugby is also a passion in Wales - just wait
until you see Wales play England - it is really serious and passionate
stuff!
